Away from MY daily grind…

… and right into someone else’s.

One of the perfectly delightful things about living in the city is that you can go away on holiday anytime you like, without having to do anything but leave your house.

I spent the day in a dreadful swampy heat, wandering around downtown Chicago, lunching on the grass at Millenium Park with the orchestra rehearsed, listening to a couple of has-beens rehash Beatles tunes, watching vacationing Texans and scurrying businessfolk doing whatever it is they do downtown.

And it was lovely.

When we first moved here I found it curious that people lived here without bothering to take advantage of any of the great things that make a city like this one that other people flock to. Four years later I see how easy it is to do that. So with what little time I have before classes start up again in August, I’m doing my best to stick my head up out of the sand and enjoy the world around me.
